UPSSSC Assistant Accountant, Auditor DV Letter 2025 Advt No 03-Exam/2024
Preparing for the UP Police Sub Inspector (SI) exam requires a deep understanding of the four core pillars of the syllabus. The 2026 selection process involves a Computer Based Test (CBT), followed by physical standards and efficiency tests.
Below is the comprehensive syllabus and exam pattern for your preparation.
## 1. Exam Pattern Overview
The written exam consists of 160 questions totaling 400 marks. You have 120 minutes (2 hours) to complete it.
| Section | Questions | Marks | Qualifying % |
| General Hindi | 40 | 100 | 35% |
| Law & Constitution / GK | 40 | 100 | 35% |
| Numerical & Mental Ability | 40 | 100 | 35% |
| Mental Aptitude / IQ / Reasoning | 40 | 100 | 35% |
| Total | 160 | 400 | 50% (Overall) |
Note: There is no negative marking, but you must meet the individual sectional cut-off (35%) and the overall cut-off (50%) to qualify.
## 2. Detailed Subject-Wise Syllabus
A. General Hindi (सामान्य हिंदी)
This section tests your command over the Hindi language, grammar, and literature.
- Grammar: Hindi Alphabet (वर्णमाला), Tenses (काल), Pronouns (सर्वनाम), Adjectives (विशेषण), Verbs (क्रिया).
- Vocabulary: Antonyms (विलोम), Synonyms (पर्यायवाची), Homonyms, One-word substitutions.
- Structure: Sentence Correction (लिंग, वचन, कारक), Idioms & Phrases (मुहावरे एवं लोकोक्तियाँ).
- Literature: Famous Poets and their works, Awards in Hindi language.
- Comprehension: Unseen passages (अपठित बोध).
B. Law & Constitution / General Knowledge
This is often considered the most critical section for SI aspirants.
- Law (Mool Vidhi): Human Rights, Traffic Rules, National Security Issues, Crime Punishment Principles, Right of Self-Defense, Laws related to Women and Children, SC/ST Act, and Environmental Conservation.
- Constitution: Fundamental Rights & Duties, Directive Principles, Constitutional Amendments, All India Services, and the Parliamentary System.
- General Knowledge: Indian History (Freedom Struggle), Geography (India & World), Indian Economy, Agriculture, Science, and Current Affairs (National & International).
- UP Special: Education, Culture, Revenue, and Police Administrative System of Uttar Pradesh.
C. Numerical & Mental Ability
This section tests mathematical proficiency and logical data interpretation.
- Numerical Ability: Number System, Simplification, Decimals & Fractions, HCF & LCM, Ratio & Proportion, Percentage, Profit & Loss, Simple & Compound Interest, Time & Work, Distance, and Mensuration.
- Mental Ability: Logical Diagrams, Symbol-Relationship Interpretation, Codification, Perception Test, and Word Formation.
D. Mental Aptitude / IQ / Reasoning
Focuses on your psychological suitability for the police force and logical thinking.
- Mental Aptitude: Law and Order, Communal Harmony, Crime Control, Rule of Law, Professional Information (Basic Level), and Police System.
- IQ Test: Relationship and Analogy, Spotting the Dissimilar, Series Completion, Coding-Decoding, Direction Sense, Blood Relations, and Venn Diagrams.
- Reasoning: Visual Memory, Space Visualization, Problem Solving, Analysis & Judgment, Decision Making, and Arithmetical Reasoning.
## 3. Physical Standards (Qualifying)
If you clear the written exam, you must meet these physical requirements:
| Category | Height (Male) | Chest (Male) | Height (Female) |
| Gen / OBC / SC | 168 cm | 79–84 cm | 152 cm |
| ST | 160 cm | 77–82 cm | 147 cm |
- Physical Efficiency Test (PET):
- Males: 4.8 km run in 28 minutes.
- Females: 2.4 km run in 16 minutes.
Because the 2026 recruitment process is ongoing, the official cut-off for the current cycle has not been released yet. However, we can look at the previous year trends and the mandatory qualifying marks to understand what you need to score to ensure selection.
To get a seat, you must pass two types of filters:
1. Mandatory Qualifying Marks (The Minimum)
Before looking at the competitive cut-off, you must meet these criteria just to stay in the race:
- Sectional Cut-off: You must score at least 35% in each of the four subjects.
- Overall Cut-off: You must score at least 50% across the total marks (minimum 200 out of 400).
2. Expected Cut-Off 2026 (Based on Previous Trends)
The competitive cut-off is the score of the last candidate selected for the Physical Test. Based on the difficulty level of recent UP Police exams, here are the estimated targets:
| Category | Male (Expected Marks /400) | Female (Expected Marks /400) |
| General (UR) | 290 – 305 | 275 – 285 |
| OBC | 275 – 285 | 260 – 270 |
| EWS | 270 – 280 | 255 – 265 |
| SC | 245 – 255 | 230 – 240 |
| ST | 215 – 225 | 200 – 210 |
3. Factors That Influence the Cut-Off
The final cut-off for 2026 will fluctuate based on three main factors:
- Normalization: Since the exam is conducted in multiple shifts, the “Normalization” process can increase or decrease your raw score by 10–20 marks.
- Number of Vacancies: If the 2026 notification has a higher number of seats (e.g., 9,000+), the cut-off may drop slightly.
- Paper Difficulty: The “Law & Constitution” (Mool Vidhi) section is usually the “deal-breaker.” If it is very tough, the overall cut-off drops significantly.
4. Past Year Official Cut-Off (Reference)
For the last major recruitment, the final cut-offs after normalization were:
- General: 302.09
- OBC: 287.51
- EWS: 285.56
- SC: 260.14
- ST: 223.33
Strategy Tip
To be safe, aim for 120+ correct questions out of 160. Because there is no negative marking, you should attempt all questions, but your accuracy in Hindi and Math must be very high to compensate for the unpredictable Law section
